Rick became involved in the food industry in 1996 when he started a barbeque stand at Bridgeton, Indiana and also began on-site catering the same year. In 2008 Rick opened up his restaurant on Wabash just a block from where he grew up and began wowing the public with award winning BBQ.
Rick comes from a family of entrepreneurs. His father, Dick, started his own construction company, and brought Rick on after he finished his education at ISU and Central Bible College.
Rick’s passion for cooking and great BBQ, inspired him to venture out on his own. After researching the area and realizing the need for a high quality BBQ restaurant, Rick left the family business and set out to accomplish his dream. Combined with lots of hard work and a product that was of high quality and demand he opened his restaurant.
Now having success he has made it a priority to support his community of Terre Haute. He has donated and discounted caterings and food to local charities and institutions to help the community grow and thrive. He will never forget how he got his start and all of the support he’s had over the years.“I’m blessed to do what I love and make a living at it. I also get to make a difference in our community” Rick Burchell.
His rewards are numerous. He has met many celebrities over the years who have hired him to cater for them including: Gary Allen, Florida Georgia Line, Sheryl Crow, Josh Turner, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean to name a few, along with some Pro Athletes. He has won many awards for his BBQ, including the Clabber Girl Brickyard BBQ, “Vendor of the Year”; The Tribune Star’s Readers Choice, “Best BBQ” three years in a row; WTHI’s Fork in the Road, “Best Ribs”; and Rock & Roll BBQ Indy, “Best Ribs”.
Rick’s advice to anyone wanting to start their own business is, “Dream big, save your money, talk to people who love you and have your best interest at heart, and don’t be afraid to fail. It’s better to try and fail than to fail to try”.
